Burton-upon-Trent-based Swiftsure Travel is to close after 27 years of trading.

The coach company, which had a fleet of seven vehicles in a white-based livery with green stripes and a prominent swift logo, had been a familiar sight on the UK coach tour scene.

Operations included coach hire, day trips and coach holidays from Burton-upon-Trent, East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire.

In a statement on the company’s website, Richard and Kathy Hackett (who along with Brian Kershaw and Julian Peddle were Directors), said: “It seems a very long time ago that we started Swiftsure Travel with Brian Kershaw in 1992, but we have decided that 27 years is long enough, and it is time for us to escape from the stresses and worries of running a small business.

“We have offered the business to some respected and trusted friends in the coach trade, but for a number of reasons, they don’t wish to take on our programme of day trips and tours.

“We have therefore decided to close the business in an orderly way; our final trips will be at the end of January and our admin offices will close for good on Monday 28 January.”
