John Lewis speaks to Chapman Driver Seating director David Cattanach about the company’s current offerings and finds out what makes them so popular

Ensuring bus drivers have comfortable, well-made seats that are easily adjusted is vitally important. Failure to do so could result in a fall in productivity and a rise in days taken off sick due to back pain and other issues. In extreme cases, it could even lead to drivers taking legal action against the employer concerned for obliging them to work in an environment that is injurious to their long-term health.

Bus operators with concerns in this area should consider turning to Chapman Driver Seating for help. It makes around 4,000 seats annually, and over 95% of them are for bus drivers. “We do a few seats for the rail market and we’ve made them for cranes, lifeboats and even for film sets over the years – we’re always interested in low volume, specialist work – but it is the bus business that dominates our activities,” said director, David Cattanach.

Those activities have also recently included refurbishing bus passenger seats. Chapman can also make bespoke office seats using a high-quality seat mechanism in conjunction with its durable range of driver seats.
