Transport for London (TfL) has announced that it is trialling a new system on its New Routemasters, where passengers can only enter the bus at the front.

Piloted on the 8 and N8, the new system will be rolled out if the initial trial proves successful.

While those in wheelchairs, and those in pushchairs will still be allowed to enter the bus through the middle doors, all other passengers will have to walk past the driver and tap in.

The move comes in a bid to tackle fare evasion, with TfL’s most recent data showing that fare evasion on these buses is over twice the rate of the bus network as a whole.
