Maxson Goh visits Alfa Travel to learn about how an integral coach model has enhanced the company’s all-in-one holiday experience

The Covid-19 pandemic was a challenging period for the coach industry, but one company has emerged from those dark times stronger than ever. Lancashire-based Alfa Travel kept customers engaged through consistent communication on Facebook during lockdown, leading to a strong resurgence once restrictions were lifted. This comeback is evident in the employee-owned company’s latest fleet investment, as highlighted in issue 1669 of CBW, where an order for 10 new Mercedes-Benz Tourismo coaches was placed.

I travelled to Chorley to explore how an integral ‘all-in-one’ coach like the Tourismo benefits an operator like Alfa Travel, which follows a similar ‘all-in-one’ model by owning both its fleet and the hotels it serves. Managing Director Emma Russell said: “We operate a UK and Irish holiday programme, transporting over 150,000 people a year. We are now busier than ever, with more customers travelling with us. We bought three new hotels in 2023 and this year we’ve seen massive investment in our fleet with the 10 new Mercedes-Benz Tourismo coaches.
