Jonathan Welch speaks to well respected Ayrshire family firm Milligans, where the next generation is helping push the business into the digital age
The small Ayrshire town of Mauchline, with its population of just over 4,000, lies some eight miles south east of Kilmarnock, and around 11 miles north-east of Ayr. Scotland’s National Poet Robert Burns made the town his home from 1784, and it is believed he wrote many of his poems there; a monument now stands in his honour. The town remains at the heart of another Scottish tradition, being home to the last surviving UK manufacturer of curling stones, Kays of Scotland, whose stones are used for prestigious events such as the Winter Olympics and are made using local Ailsa Craig granite.
