Who doesn’t like a bit of irony now and again? For TV fans, says regular contributor Richard Walter, it’s that time again when the mighty worlds of buses and TV legend Doctor Who come together in an explosion of colour on the streets as part of an advertising campaign to promote the latest series of the long-running show.
New to BBC and BBC iPlayer this month is series 2 of Ncuti Gatwa’s era of playing The Doctor, in which the time and space travelling Tardis needs to get new companion Belinda home to Earth in 2025, a long and dangerous route as it turns out, but we won’t risk any spoilers here.
As part of a marketing tie-up, buses up and down the UK are being wrapped accordingly, with the tag ‘One Hell of a Journey Home’ as seen on this First Glasgow double-decker. We know it’s referring to the show, but as Richard says, “that could either frighten passengers off, or encourage them to travel by bus!”
If only they could see out, unlike the aliens on the upper deck; although at least in this case, it’s not all of the windows which are covered by contravision vinyl, just some of them… Still, it’s more windows than a Tardis.
