A themed weekend of pure transport nostalgia was the essence of a 70th anniversary celebration for Selby-based operator Thornes Independent, reports Nick Larkin

The celebrations kicked off on Saturday 5 October with an excursion in 1959 AEC-engined Seddon/Harrington VHO200, which the firm has owned for 58 years, to Eden Camp Prisoner of War Museum at Malton. A refreshment break was taken en-route at The Sidings Hotel, a venue constructed from several British Railways Mark 1 railway carriages and situated alongside the East Coast Main Line just north of York. However the main event was held the following day at the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington.
