An unusual example of a type more commonly associated with London has emerged from an 18-year restoration, reports Nick Larkin

A unique Leyland Titan new to West Midlands PTE was the undisputed star at Transport Museum Wythall’s recent Rear Engined Running Day. Definitely one of this year’s most important newcomers to the rally scene, WDA 1T has been the subject of an 18-year restoration by owner Matthew Parker.

West Midlands PTE 7001 is now in the condition in which it appeared at the 1978 Commercial Motor Show. The PTE was most impressed with the sophisticated integral Titan and had originally ordered 80 with the likelihood of many more. In the event, only five were ever delivered due to industrial relations problems at the Park Royal factory in London where the Titan was initially built and which Leyland had decided to close.
