Stagecoach apprentice Tyler Brace with his preserved Dennis Dart. TYLER BRACE

Stagecoach East apprentice Tyler Brace doesn’t always stop working on a bus when he finishes work for the day! Tyler, 21, has his own preserved Dennis Dart which he is currently renovating.
His involvement with Stagecoach began with work experience at the operator’s Lincoln Road, Peterborough premises while studying for his Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance. “I enjoyed it so much I asked if I could come back and do some more work, which I did and ended up being offered a four year apprenticeship,” said Tyler.

This began in August 2018, and Tyler has been studying for his NVQ Level 3 qualification. This involves study with GTG Training in Wolverhampton, where Tyler is one of four apprentices with Stagecoach East, where he received the Lecturer’s Choice Award in September 2019.

Now Tyler is practising his skills on his own bus. Dennis Dart SLF AE51 VFX was new to Cavalier of Long Sutton in 2001, joining its Huntingdon & District fleet.

Stagecoach took over in 2008, operating the Dart in Peterborough before the 29-seat Plaxton-bodied bus passed to East Kent, after which it was donated to the Cambridgeshire-based Eastern Bus Enthusiasts (EBE) group, of which Tyler is a member. With the help of his dad Wayne, Tyler has been painting the bus and he has carried out a full service and other mechanical work.

“It’s a great project and I hope the bus will be appearing at events this year,” said Tyler.
