A trial scheme providing temporary coach parking on the Skegness seafront has been hailed as a success, the Skegness Standard has reported.
Waiting areas were designated for coaches on the east side of Grand Parade and North Parade during the summer. The move followed concerns over tourist coaches using the bus bay outside the Embassy Centre.
Coaches were able to park for up to 15 minutes on two sections of the roadway, one close to the McDonald’s restaurant and the other adjacent to Pier Field.
The initiative had been criticised by members of the town council when it was announced earlier this year. However, results from the trial have been positive according to Lincolnshire County Council projects and traffic support manager, Graeme Butler.
He said: “During the summer season we designated short term coach parking areas on the east side of Grand Parade and North Parade, in an attempt to overcome the issue of day trip coaches using the bus stop outside the Embassy Centre by giving them their own areas to drop off and pick up passengers for short periods.
“These experimental short term coach bays were deemed to be a success and will continue to be monitored for the next few weeks. A working group will then be established to discuss the situation before a proposal for amendments to waiting restrictions on the sea front is put forward for public consultation. It is hoped that any changes can be implemented for the 2016 season.”
