Two people have died after a Stagecoach double-decker bus crashed into a Sainsbury’s supermarket in Coventry city centre.

A seven-year-old boy, who was sitting on the upper deck of the bus, and a female pedestrian in her 70s, died at the scene. An eight-year-old girl, the boy’s cousin, who was also travelling on the top deck of the bus, is in a critical but stable condition at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Five other people, including the driver, were taken to University Hospital Coventry for treatment.

The Stagecoach Midlands X18 service to Leamington struck a number of parked cars and a lamppost before crashing into the supermarket on Trinity Street at 1800hrs on Saturday, October 3.

West Midlands police said the driver of the bus, aged 77, had not been arrested and was helping police with their investigation.
