There are just 16 ADL Enviro400-bodied Scania N230UDs allocated to the former South Notts garage at Gotham. NCT

Andy Izatt provides a brief overview of the Nottingham City Transport fleet

While the Nottingham City Transport (NCT) fleet is highly standardised, it’s also a unique reflection of the city it serves, reflecting a long and proud municipal tradition. A once significant fleet of full-size single-decks has now gone and this is now a double-deck and midi-bus operation only, with the former allocated to Lower Parliament Street garage and the latter to Trent Bridge where there’s also a small works. A small number of double and single-decks remain based at the former South Notts depot at Gotham although all its engineering functions are now carried out at Trent Bridge.

NCT’s double-deck contingent is dominated by the 120 Scania N280UD ADL (Alexander Dennis Ltd) Enviro400 CBG City gas buses that are now operated reflecting Engineering Director Gary Mason’s strong commitment for this form of alternative propulsion. They include fleet number 500, which was used by the manufacturers as a demonstrator for over a year prior to entering service in Nottingham.

There are also still 45 12m Scania OmniDekkas operated that each seat an impressive 86. One of those has the last double-deck body built by Optare at the former East Lancs factory at Blackburn. Another five are being converted for use as driver training vehicles, and the six Scania OmniCity single-decks they’re replacing have not been included in this profile. Even the remaining 46 ’deckers in the fleet are unusual. Scania ADL Enviro400s, a rare combination in itself, they have been built to a full height of 4.3m.

The midi-bus fleet is a mix of Optare Solo SRs and ADL Enviro200s, most recently bolstered by 10 ADL Enviro200 MMCs for Bridgford Bus routes 5, 7, 8 and 9 in November last year. Route branded liveries are used throughout NCT’s operation although a small number of vehicles are unbranded so they can provide spare cover.
