Undergoing a massive restoration for eventual use in Ensign’s 40 plus strong heritage fleet is a type forever associated with London, the AEC RT-type. However, this example is not quite what it seems. BDJ807 was amongst 40 examples new to St Helens Corporation to exact London specification down to the interior and destination blind layout.

‘It’s certainly something a bit different, but proving to be one of the biggest restorations we’ve carried out,’ said Ensignbus’ Steve Newman. ‘The bus will be an interesting contrast to ‘native’ RTs when it’s finished.

Ensign’s heritage fleet now comprises around 45 vehicles, which are used for a wide range of private hires. Some see occasional operation on rail replacement and other duties.

Meanwhile 1952 London Transport Metro-Cammell-bodied AEC Regal IV RF-type MLL600 has been sold via Ensignbus to a new preservationist owner and is pictured undergoing MOT work.
