Volvo has announced an all-new double decker for operations in Europe. An all-new version of its Volvo 9700DD double-decker, the new coach will have an overall height of 4 metres, making it suitable for operations in Europe, compared to the 4.25-metre high 9700DD launched for the Nordic market in 2020. Designed for both express and tourist operations, the new European-height version of the 9700 DD will sit alongside Volvo’s 9700 single-deck coach and its higher-specification 9900. “With the launch of the Volvo 9700DD for European operations we have a comprehensive range of line haul and tourist buses with a wide variety of versions for customers to choose between. We have already received several orders for the double-decker from the Nordic market and it is very gratifying that we will now also be able to offer other European customers this premium class express and tourist bus,” said Ulf Magnusson, Senior Vice President, Business Unit Europe, at Volvo Buses. The 4-metre high 9700DD will be fitted with Volvo’s D11K460 11-litre engine certified to run on diesel, HVO and biodiesel (B100) and will be bodied by Carrus Delta OY of Finland. Volvo has an online launch event reveal event planned on 4 February at 1600hrs. Volvo told CBW it has no current plans to bring the new double-decker to the UK market.
