CHILE
A train of Volvo articulated buses was delivered by road across the Andes as part of an order for a customer in Chile recently. “The capital city of Santiago offers one of the most modern urban transport systems in the world. It has more than 5,000 buses in operation and around 30% of those are Volvo models. We are very proud to support the city with 556 new Volvo B8Rs, featuring the most advanced technologies,” said Dan Pettersson, Senior Vice President of Volvo’s chassis business unit.
The chassis were partly produced at the Volvo plant in Curitiba, Brazil and partly in Borås, Sweden. The bodies are manufactured by Marcopolo and Caio. To reach the Chilean capital, the buses travelled 2,700 kilometres in ten days including a spectacular journey across the Andes on the ‘Los Caracoles’ road, a nickname which translates as ‘the snails’ and given as a result of its many, winding curves.
