Volvo bodybuilder partner, Sunsundegui, has outlined a significant €5.5m investment plan to increase productivity and enhance quality at its Alsasua headquarters in Spain.

The plans – which include a site expansion, the refurbishment of existing buildings and new commercial configurator software – will ensure a modern plant and operation, illustrating the company’s commitment to the UK market.

James Hyde, Retail Sales Director for Volvo Bus, said: “We have been working with Sunsundegui in the UK since 2003, supplying more than 500 vehicles into the market, and our relationship continues to go from strength to strength, so we welcome this major investment news from them.

“Sunsundegui has a formidable reputation as a traditional coach body builder and their innovative and flexible approach allows us to offer their products to many segments in our market, while meeting the needs of a wide range of operators in the UK and Ireland.

“As demand, and in turn output continues to grow, Sunsundegui is reporting that its 2017 production will peak at 450 orders for the year. In addition, 2018 is already looking like a bumper year, with 600 units forecast.

“We work with a number of key bodybuilders across our vehicle range and the Sunsundegui has always been popular with our customers. The partnership has been successful right across Europe and we’re no different here in the UK and Ireland, as recent orders have highlighted. This investment into its facilities will be vital in delivering these orders and will also have a part to play in Volvo’s success in the UK.”
