INDIA The Bangalore Mirror has reported on a bus station in Peenya which it described as a white elephant because no one uses it. It says it was built in the wrong location.

The Basaveshwara Bus Stand built by the Kamataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) opened in 2014 and cost Rs40cr (£4.82m).

A KSRTC official told the paper that due to the poor response from the general public, the agency which had received the contract to rent out commercial spaces at the bus stand, has not paid the rent to the KSRTC for the last one year.

In 2014 the KSRTC had started bus services from the facility to cities and towns in northern parts of the state like Hubballi, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Haveri, Belgavi and other destinations.

Around 140 services had been moved from the Majestic Bus Stand.
