USA: Daimler Coaches North America has delivered a further 15 Mercedes-Benz Tourrider Premium coaches to operator Yankee Line, making the Boston, Massachusetts-based company the first US customer to operate 50 of the type, which was launched in 2022 and designed specifically for the North American market. Yankee Line took delivery of its first Tourriders in the December of that year, and has grown its fleet to 50 within two years.
“The sophisticated comfort and safety standards, as well as the ‘wow’ factor our customers experience when boarding the Mercedes-Benz Tourrider, fully meet our exacting standards as a premium tour operator,” said company owner Don Dunham. “We are delighted to be able to support Yankee Line’s mission to provide a unique experience for every passenger with our innovative products,” said CEO and President of Daimler Coaches North America Thomas Rohde.
The vehicles for Yankee Line are supplied in variants with 46, 50 and 56 full-leather seats, are each equipped with a TopSky panoramic roof, a kitchenette at the rear, a 360-degree camera and a lift system for wheelchairs. They also feature Daimler’s Active Brake Assist 5 (ABA 5) emergency braking system with pedestrian detection, which can brake automatically to a full standstill if stationary or moving obstacles and pedestrians are detected.
They are powered by a 12.8-litre Mercedes-Benz OM 471 in-line six-cylinder diesel engine delivering 450hp (336kW) mated with an Allison WTB 500R six-speed automatic transmission.
