Another entrant into the bus repower market is ZEEbus, and the company, which began work on its first conversion based around a Volvo B5LH in 2023, has now officially unveiled its second project, to create a repower option for the Alexander Dennis Enviro400. The company launched its repowering operation on 23rd May 2023, demonstrating a proof of concept vehicle based around a Wrightbus-bodied Volvo B5LH at its headquarters in Little Staughton.

The ZEEbus conversion is based around what the company calls a robust modular architecture that is designed to occupy the space vacated by the old internal combustion engine and fuel system. It says that drivetrain components are well-proven and manufactured by established industry suppliers, while the battery packs are built to the company’s own design and scalable to suit the range and route requirements of each application. It has production centres in Bedfordshire, where it focuses on product development and construction of major EV sub assemblies, and at Scarborough where it focuses on the turn around of bus conversions.

The company says it is excited to announce that its next all-electric converted bus will be entering fleet trials in a few months’ time with an as-yet unnamed operator.

“This double-decker represents our most advanced conversion to date, featuring improved energy efficiency, optimised performance, and seamless integration into existing operations,” the company said. “The trials will allow operators to experience ZEEbus technology in action, and demonstrate just how capable a converted bus can be.”
