Jonathan Welch tries out Xplore Dundee’s new electric double-deckers
Dundee is Scotland’s fourth-largest city, after Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. Yet it often feels like the kind of place I pass through on my way to elsewhere, rather than a destination in itself despite being home to numerous attractions and having a busy city centre. With the launch of Xplore Dundee’s fleet of new BYD ADL Enviro400EVs, I thought it was time to go and take a closer look at the new buses, and ‘xplore’ the more mundane side of the city.
I have to admit, I do quite enjoy that side of bus travel. All too often, we only go to the places we need to visit. Catching a bus in an unknown town or city can be eye-opening, as well as helping to better get to grips with the geography of the place or give a flavour of real, everyday life away from the tourist hotspots.
Now the country is emerging from lockdown, it seemed the right time to do a passenger perspective feature again, something we have erred away from over the last couple of years for fairly obvious reasons. It feels right to get back out there now, though, to help spread the message that public transport is safe.
