After being forced to cancel the Bus Driver of the Year (BDoY) national competitions in 2020 and 2021, the organsiers say they are looking forward to old and new supporters joining them in 2022 for the 54th National BDoY Final.
BDoY Chairman, Joe Mackie, said: “Who would have thought when the Covid-19 pandemic hit us we would have to cancel two competitions? However, we had to, but the good news is we are well on target for arranging and running a competition with the National Final in Blackpool based at the Imperial Hotel on Sunday 18 September 2022.”
Although conscious of the difficulties facing the bus industry, the BDoY Council says it is hopeful that the reintroduction of the annual competition will do something to lift the spirits of all involved.
Joe added: “The bus industry and its staff have had challenging times over the past 18 or so months and it is good to see some form of normality returning, though a lot has to be done to encourage passenger growth. The Council of BDoY is conscious of the challenges ahead for the industry and are hopeful that the reintroduction of the BDoY competition will do something to lift the spirits of all involved.”
Paul MacKay, Competition Secretary will be writing to all operators who have expressed an interest in taking part early in 2022 giving details of the competition, whilst the organisation’s AGM will be held online via Zoom on 21 October.
Bus operators who have any queries are invited to get in touch with Joe or any BDoY Council member, whose contact details can be found on the website at bdoy.co.uk
