European manufacturers VDL and Ebusco have won Red Dot design awards. Among the world’s largest design competitions, the Red Dot Design Award has become established internationally as a mark of quality for good design, having been first introduced in 1955.
Ebusco’s 3.0 took the prize in the Product Design category. The manufacturer said it was ‘extremely proud’ to receive the prestigious design award and called it a ‘huge recognition’ for its 3.0.
The 3.0 was designed in cooperation with partner KesselsGranger DesignWorks. “Receiving the Red Dot Award for the design of the Ebusco 3.0 is a wonderful achievement for all involved. We’re honoured and proud to work closely with Ebusco, at the forefront of innovation, with a team of specialists in business, design, engineering and manufacturing, creating state-of-the-art mobility which contributes to a better living environment,” said a spokesperson for the design agency.
VDL Bus & Coach has also won a Red Dot award in the Product Design category for its new generation electric Citea. “The fact that VDL emerged as the victor from such a strong group of participants is testament to the exceptional quality of the product,” judged Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award. “In an evaluation process lasting several days, the entries from all over the world were examined in detail and assessed by experts for their design quality and degree of innovation.”
“The VDL design philosophy makes the journey even more pleasant for both driver and passengers,” explained Bram Veendrick, Design Manager at VDL. “In the new generation Citea, the traveller benefits from an optimal seating arrangement and flow without obstacles, while the driver has an ergonomic driver’s cabin. There is an optimal streamline for very low energy consumption. The design is based on the characteristics of the public space, which is reflected in the interior.”
