Nick Larkin talks to Showbus organiser Martin Isles about the event’s 50 years – which were not without their problems
Riots, mud, Covid-19, more mud, and finances. All have presented obstacles successfully overcome by Martin Isles and his team during 50 years of organising Showbus. The event has been Britain’s biggest bus and coach rally, with loyal support from the industry and countless enthusiasts. However this year’s Showbus was the last; an emotional decision.
All this was a world away when the very young Martin’s love of buses grew – at bathtime. “I used to run my Dinky Toy buses around the top of the bath,” he explained. “My interest just went on from there.”
