Nick Larkin reports on developments at the East Anglia Transport Museum, which include a dedicated display of locally-built ECW vehicles
A museum building paying tribute to legendary coachbuilders Eastern Coach Works (ECW) is planned for its home area. During a 67-year existence, the Lowestoft, Suffolk-based firm bodied most of the vehicles bought by the National Bus Company and its predecessors as well as those of many other operators.
Now, a new Eastern Coach Works building is planned to become part of a major expansion at the East Anglia Transport Museum at Carlton Colville, near Lowestoft. Part of the museum’s ‘New Field’ project, it came about through a legacy donation by former member Ken Thorpe, which enabled the museum to acquire five acres of farmland adjoining the western boundary of its existing site back in 2016.
