Austrian operator Rheintal Busverkehr has purchased 16 Solaris Urbino 9 LE electric vehicles, of which 11 will be delivered in 2024 and a further five in 2025. The low-entry nine-metre vehicles will serve passengers in the Lustenau region, located in the Rhine valley in western Austria. The company already operates 20 similar-length, conventionally powered Urbino 8.9 LE buses.

Solaris says its Urbino 9 LE electric bus is both emission-free and highly manoeuvrable, making it it perfectly suited for journeys in crowded urban spaces. The e-buses will be powered by Solaris High Energy batteries with a total capacity of over 300kWh and charged via a plug-in connector. Each bus will be equipped with two plug-in connectors on the nearside wheel arch and in the rear nearside panel to facilitate easier parking.

The buses offer seating for 27 passengers and will be fitted with an automatic passenger counting system and a CO2 heat pump.
