Kimes of Folkingham is to close next month, the firm’s parent company Centrebus has confirmed.

Asked to comment on the latest developments, Dave Shelley, Commercial Director at Centrebus told CBW: “The first stages of the consultation with staff are complete and the decision has been taken by Centrebus to close the depot.

“The majority of services will be transferred through a rolling programme during August to other depots. The first phase will see routes 4, 26, 27 moved to Grantham depot. A week later, service 9 will transfer to Saxby Depot and route 12 to Corby depot.

“An agreement has been reached for transfer of routes 58 and 59 to Brylaine Travel, together with five buses. This is expected to happen at the end of August, when the Kimes site will formally close.”

A blow for the firm has been the decision by Peterborough City Council to cease funding any of the Centrebus/ Kimes services from the start of October. “We will therefore be using that date as an opportunity to review what timetable changes to former Kimes services will be needed, if any.

“However, at this stage, customers can be reassured that services will continue unchanged during the closure process,” Mr Shelley concluded.
