Synectics has signed new agreements with Cardiff Bus to supply CCTV for 30 vehicles on order and to continue to service and maintain surveillance systems across the existing 220-stong fleet as part of a 12-month rolling extension to a contract first placed in 2010.

Twenty Timespace V400 units are to be installed in 20 Mercedes- Benz Citaros due for delivery in November/December while 10 more will go into ADL Enviro200s expected to be delivered in November.

Synectics’ relationship with Cardiff Bus goes back 11 years to when the company installed firstgeneration digital video recorders. Upgrades followed in 2005 with CCTV increasingly becoming business-critical for the operators.

An early adopter of wireless technology, Cardiff Bus has one of the largest municipal fleets with WLAN-enabled CCTV.

Gareth Mole, Engineering Director at Cardiff Bus, said: “Working CCTV systems are a vital part of our operations. They have become increasingly important for reliably protecting our customers and drivers – as well as the business – against insurance fraud and anti-social behaviour. That’s why we didn’t think twice to order the latest CCTV technology for our 30 new vehicles. Synectics is a great partner for this, giving us the peace of mind required for something as important as CCTV.”
