Operator beats off international competition to win award from HRH The Princess Royal and Senior TC Beverley Bell
Reading Buses has won the Environmental Improvement Award at the 2015 Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Excellence Awards.
CEO Martijn Gilbert, who received the award from HRH The Princess Royal and Senior Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell, said afterwards it was a ‘massive achievement’ to have won against the whole of the transport and logistics industry.
Martijn said: “This is a massive honour for our company and fantastic recognition of the hard work of our team in continually improving our environmental performance as well as our underpinning commitment to best practice and responsible stewardship in this important area.
“Reading Buses has continually improved its fleet year-on-year, harnessing the latest technology and being pioneers of championing alternative fuels.
“We have invested heavily in new buses and greener fuel technologies over a number of years, including 34 buses powered by compressed natural gas – purchased from a sustainable bio-methane source from cow waste, 31 electric-hybrid buses and a number of the latest generation diesel powered buses with ‘Euro 6’ low emission engines.
“We strive to think and be green in everything that we do from planning our network, how we work behind the scenes in the depot and offices and our long-term strategy of continually improving our performance and reducing our carbon footprint. That’s got to be good for us, our customers, Reading and the planet”.
The judges noted that Reading Buses had a ‘winning combination of commercial acumen and environmental awareness.’
