The first fully-electric bus to be used for a local bus service in Scotland recently celebrated 100,000 miles in service.
The 27-seater Optare Solo was launched in November 2013 by Keith Brown MSP, Minister for Transport and Veterans, and operates on the McLean of Stanraer bus service which links the ferry ports at Cairnryan to the railway station in Stranraer.
The battery-powered Optare Solo was part-funded through the Scottish Government’s Green Bus Fund and is supported by the Regional Transport Partnership SWestrans.
William McLean, owner of McLeans of Stranraer, commented: “We’ve had some really positive feedback from customers using the bus, who are impressed by its environmental credentials and how quiet and smooth the vehicle is in service.”
Robert Drewery, Optare Commercial Director, added: “Electric buses are playing an increasing part in reducing emissions in our towns and cities.
“As market leaders in the UK of electric bus technology, Optare is delighted to celebrate yet another Optare electric bus success.”
