First Kernow claims to have become the first bus company in the UK to cut prices when it’s raining.
The Cornish operator announced that when umbrellas go up, fares on its day tickets will automatically be cut to half price. ‘Rainy Day Tickets’ will be available on the bus when there’s rain falling – whether it is in the form of a light drizzle or a monsoon.
Day tickets valid on all First Kernow public buses during the rain will be £6 for adults, £3 for children and £12 for a family group (up to two adults and an unlimited number of children), available from the driver.
Initially, the Rainy Day ticket offer will run throughout the peak summer time from Sunday, July 24 to Saturday, September 3.
Marc Morgan Huws, Business Director at First Kernow, said: “The one thing we cannot predict during the summer is the weather.
“Traditionally, people don’t venture out when the weather is poor and don’t travel on our buses.
“We’re giving locals and tourists alike an extra incentive to get around Cornwall, even if it’s raining.
“When the umbrellas are up, the ponchos are on, and the windscreen wipers are doing 10 to the dozen, there’s still every reason to get to the nearest bus stop and get out and about in Cornwall.
“The rules are simple. If it’s raining when you board the bus, you can ask the driver for one of our range of Rainy Day tickets.
“As well as giving our visitors and locals something to dispel the rainy gloom, our Rainy Day offer should give a boost to holiday attractions and tourist dependent businesses across Cornwall when the weather is against us.”
