Rapidly growing German provider sees Denmark as next target market

DENMARK FlixBus, which describes itself as Europe’s fastest growing mobility start-up and already the leading provider of domestic coach services in Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands, said it’s going to make Denmark its next national market. Together with Danish SME (small and medium-size enterprises) bus companies, newly established FlixBus Danmark ApS is to launch a domestic network as well as new cross-border services to Scandinavia and the continent from spring 2017. The routes are going to connect Denmark’s large and medium-sized cities up to six times per day.

Max Zeumer, FlixBus Vice President International Business, said: “We want to offer green and smart mobility all over Denmark. From spring 2017, the first Danish FlixBuses are going to run on high-frequent connections between all major cities. Together with regional bus partners, we are going to establish Denmark’s best long-distance coach network.”

In June 2015 FlixBus started a sales cooperation for cross-border services between the Danish capital and Berlin. In April 2016 it launched its first own route connecting Copenhagen, Kolding and Odense to Dutch cities. Within a year it said it had tripled the volume of passengers on these international connections. This summer alone, over 70.000 customers used its cross-border service from or to Denmark.

FlixBus was launched in 2013 in Germany and now offers Europe’s most extensive coach network with 100.000 daily connections to 20 countries. It said it has created around 5.000 new jobs in the local SME industry of key markets. From bases in Munich, Berlin, Paris, Zagreb and Milan, it now operates 1.000 green coaches and expects to carry 30m passengers in 2016, a 50% increase compared to last year.

Jochen Engert, FlixBus founder and Managing Director, said: “We want to offer the best service for the best price. By combining entrepreneurial spirit and innovative technology with the quality of a traditional SME industry, we introduced a new means of transport. We attracted a whole new target group and simply made buses cool.

“Buses are the most efficient and thus climate-friendly means of transport. FlixBus customers are able to compensate the CO2 emissions of their trip and therefore travel carbon neutral.

“We have already changed the way people travel. Now our vision is to offer customers all over Europe the same green experience everywhere, in Copenhagen, Paris or Barcelona.”
