BRAZIL Brasdiesel’s new workshop in Caxias do Sul, southern Brazil, is 50,000 square metres and has 43 bays. That makes it the largest Scania workshop in the world. Brasdiesel with 356 branches celebrated 60 years as a Scania dealer last year.
The workshop building at Caxias do Sul covers 16,000 square metres and has the capacity to simultaneously handle vehicle combinations of up to 30 metres or 90 without.
The building employs energy-saving technology. Two closed circuit wastewater treatment facilities ensure purification and evaporation of water, which is subsequently reused. All internal and external lighting uses LED lamps, which reduce energy consumption. There are also several natural lighting points via skylights, reducing the need for electric light during the day and, consequently, the environmental impact of the site.
Solar heating is used to heat water used in wash basins and washing ramps. Water with oil, grease and other contaminants passes through a new vacuum evaporator, which concentrates the harmful substances and generates clean water for reuse. The new evaporator can treat approximately 2,000 litres per day and water reuse is 95%. An overhead lubrication system is designed to prevent waste, enhance efficiency and collects discarded oil via an overhead suction system. There are 12 digitally-controlled oil supply points installed in the workshop.
“This new workshop offers new solutions in meeting customer needs,” says Director Itamar Zanette, Brasdiesel. “The transport industry has changed with longer and higher vehicles. Service workshops need to adapt accordingly.”
