Stagecoach East Midlands showcased bus accessibility as part of the third annual Disabled Access Day, between Friday 10 and Sunday 12, March.

Due to the success of the previous year’s awareness-raising day, this year’s event spanned over a whole weekend. Alongside encouraging people with disabilities to visit somewhere new, the weekend also gave people the chance to take part in ‘Try a Bus Day.’ A bus was parked at Lincoln’s Cornhill on Friday, March 10, to give people the experience of boarding a bus without pressure.

Staff were also on-hand to answer any queries and discuss bus travel on Stagecoach’s services.

Speaking ahead of the event, Michelle Hargreaves, Managing Director Stagecoach East Midlands, said: “We are delighted to be involved with Disabled Access Day for the second year running and are looking forward to inviting members of the community on board our buses to learn about how taking the bus can be an attractive option.

“We also want to hear from our disabled passengers about how we can help make their journeys with us more pleasurable.”

Euan’s Guide, the disabled access review website and app, was the lead sponsor of the day.

Paul Ralph, Founder of Disabled Access Day, said: “The chance to try something new can have a sustaining and meaningful effect as new opportunities are unveiled.

“For me, and many disabled people, bus travel provides that important link between places, communities and people. Accessible bus services have the potential to make an enormous difference to people’s lives.”

He added: “I welcome the support of Stagecoach in helping promote the message of accessible bus travel during Disabled Access Day and the legacy it will leave.”
