Yorkshire Tiger, part of Arriva, held a launch event at Bradford City Square on June 29 in celebration of its new ‘flying tiger’ buses on routes 737 and 747.
Six new Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro200MMCs have been acquired for use on the services, which have a peak vehicle requirement of five. They entered service on Monday, July 3.
A spokesman for Yorkshire Tiger told CBW that the Optare Versas previously used on the service have been moved to the 757 route and will be getting new liveries. Fares have been slightly reduced and the operator has sent out leaflets offering half price return journeys.
To launch the new buses, Yorkshire Tiger staff handed out free goody bags, candy floss and prizes alongside a DJ performance where the new buses were showcased to the public.
Simon Finnie, Yorkshire Tiger Managing Director, said: “We are excited to upgrade our fleet with the introduction of brand new buses which are smart, stylish and comfortable, with E-Leather seats, free WiFi, USB sockets, wide entrances and properly designed luggage racks.”
The 737 and 747 services run seven days a week up to every 20 minutes, connecting Bradford and Harrogate to Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA), while the 757 service provides direct links from Leeds. Return travel to the airport starts from £6 and is valid for up to 28 days.
Charles Johnson, Head of Planning Development at LBA, said: “It’s great to see further investment on the Yorkshire Tiger bus routes to and from the airport. I am confident our passengers will be pleased to travel on the new fleet of buses when arriving and departing LBA. It’s important for there to be a smooth, convenient and high quality journey for passengers accessing the airport, and we are pleased to work closely with the Yorkshire Tiger team – linking the airport to Leeds, Bradford and Harrogate with ease.”
