First Bus is set to take on the Wessex 42 service, which was previously dropped by Wessex Buses.

Wessex Bus’s parent company Rotala announced last month it would shut operations in Bristol and Bath from September for financial reasons.

While most of its services are being taken over by the Cheltenham and Gloucester Omnibus Company – run by Stagecoach – three services were de-registered. The 42, 12 and 51 were all dropped and Stagecoach didn’t take them on.

Last week, Bristol’s biggest operator First Bus announced it was operating a new service called 2A to replace the 51.

First Bus has now again stepped in to take over the 42 service, which will be run as a trial for six months.

The new 42 will run every half hour from Mondays to Friday, starting 3 September. The route is set to remain the same.

The company will assess at the end if the service is viable.
