Alexander Dennis (ADL) has announced that it has secured a comprehensive contract to provide maintenance services to Mexico City rapid transport operator Metrobús.
The deal will see ADL maintain the 90 buses, which have already clocked up almost eight million kilometres on the city’s Line 7 in their first 17 months of service. Passing along the city’s famous Paseo de la Reforma, the buses have already carried over 50 million passengers, with up to 150, 000 using the service every day.
In a continuation of the support provided by the manufacturer to date, the contract will see ADL take over preventative maintenance and daily checks from the fleet’s two operating companies, Sky Bus Reforma and Operadora Linea 7 at a facility set up by ADL at Maravillas bus depot.
A team of 14 mechanics and engineers will be employed to carry out the work. ADL says this will increase operating efficiency by using economies of scale and pooling maintenance, reducing the total cost of ownership for Metrobús.
The individual operating companies will remain responsible for cleaning and fuelling as well as maintaining wheels and tyres.
