First Student has won a contract for the operation and management of all student transport services in the Racine United School District of Wisconsin for the next five years. More than 11,000 students will be using the buses, and First Student will introduce an app which allows parents to track the progress of their child’s bus, as well as receive updates from the school district.

John Strack, Supervisor of Transportation and Enrolment at Racine Unified School District, said: “First Student is known for providing quality transportation services. We want to improve the bus-riding experience for our students, and we are confident First Student will deliver solutions that really make a difference.”

Announcing the new contract, First Student’s Area General Manager, Andrew Peterson, said: “First Student is committed to setting the highest standards in the school bus transportation industry. Our experience, processes and best practices allow us to deliver safe and consistent service. We look forward to having students in Racine ride our buses for many years to come.”

Meanwhile in Mississippi, First Student has also been awarded a contract to transport nearly 4,000 students until 2023.

“Working with First Student will allow us to significantly enhance our ability to provide students with safe and efficient transportation,” said Hattiesburg Public School District Superintendent Dr. Robert Williams.

“We were impressed by their industry-leading safety record, rigorous driver training programs and adoption of new technologies. We are confident First Student has the expertise needed to drive the district forward.”

Welcoming the news, First Student Area General Manager, Tony Vidrine, said: “We are proud to become an integral part of the Hattiesburg community. We look forward to providing thousands of children in the community with the safest ride to and from school.”

The buses will be fitted with the GPS tracking and Child Check-Mate, an electronic system designed to ensure that no child is left unattended on a bus.
