60% of the operator’s fleet in the region is Euro VI-compliant

All Stagecoach buses in Liverpool now meet Euro V emissions standards as a minimum. Stagecoach Merseyside, Cheshire and South Lancashire has also invested significantly in its fleet to introduce a number of new vehicles in recent years; over 60% of its fleet now meets Euro VI standards.

The operator stated that Euro VI vehicles, and those retrofitted to this standard, produce 10 times less nitrogen oxide per litre of fuel than a new diesel-powered car, despite being able to carry 20 times more people, meaning they provide the most practical short-term solution for meeting clean air policies and implementing Clean Air Zones.

Rob Jones, Managing Director at Stagecoach Merseyside, Cheshire and South Lancashire, said: “Ensuring our fleet is as sustainable as possible is a key priority for us as a business. The future of our planet rests in the balance and as a responsible transport provider, we want to do absolutely everything we can to develop innovative solutions to mitigate the effect of our vehicles on the environment.

“With all our fleet now achieving Euro V and 60% of our fleet achieving the next-generation Euro VI standard, we are helping to make Liverpool one of the greenest cities in the UK and a better place to live and work.

“Through investment in cleaner engines, renewable fuels, and energy efficient facilities, we are able to provide a service that puts our buses at the heart of the region’s low carbon strategy.”

Other green initiatives Stagecoach Merseyside has adopted include a 100% recycling rate, meaning everything recyclable from paper and litter left by passengers, to used oils, batteries and the water used to wash the buses every night, is recycled.

Stagecoach is part of Liverpool City Region’s Bus Alliance, a partnership between Liverpool’s biggest bus operators and Merseytravel. The Alliance is focused on quality of vehicles and customer service, value for money journeys and straightforward travel from simple fare structures to easy to understand journey planning and a clear, simple bus network.
