Vancouver’s transit authority TransLink has placed its first double-decker buses in service. Following a four month long trial of two buses in 2017, TransLink placed an order for 32 ADL Enviro500 double-deck buses, which will operate on routes 301, 555 and 620 once all of the vehicles have been delivered and accepted for service.

The same length as the authority’s single-deck buses, the new Enviro500s have a capacity of 83 seated passengers plus standees, and at $1m each cost around the same as an articulated single-decker.

Features and amenities for passengers include USB charging outlets and an LCD screen showing a view of the top deck to allow passengers to see if seats are free before going upstairs. TransLink announced in summer that it has already taken up the option of another 25 vehicles, which will be delivered in the autumn of 2020.
