McGill’s fined after Public Inquiry and told to hire more TMs

A £75,000 fine is issued for poor punctuality alongside numerous undertakings, after concerns are sparked by route monitoring and a wheel loss incident

McGill’s of Glasgow has been fined £75,000 after a number of bus monitoring exercises by Bus Users Scotland showed poor punctuality on several routes.

In a written decision from Senior Traffic Commissioner (STC) Richard Turfitt, the company’s three transport managers were given formal warnings and several undertakings were applied to its O-licence:

  • A finance review to be completed by 31 October 2020;
  • A full compliance audit to be submitted to the Office of the Traffic Commissioner (OTC) in Edinburgh by close on 30 April 2020;
  • Two additional CPC holders to be appointed as Transport Managers by 31 December 2019; and
  • New PMI forms to be introduced which meet all the Inspection Manual numbers as set out in the Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness.
    McGill’s highlighted major new investments it had made in the business. In March, it announced it had invested £5m in 26 new vehicles from ADL, such as this Enviro200. RICHARD WALTER
