The once oh-so-familiar sounds of Leyland Atlanteans will again echo around Plymouth on Sunday 5 April when the 60th anniversary of the type entering service in the local municipal fleet is celebrated.

Plymouth City Transport, later Plymouth Citybus, would buy Atlanteans from 1960 when the first, TCO521-538, with 77-seat Metro-Cammell bodies were delivered, until 1981 and the arrival of East Lancs-H43/31F bodied TTT162-171X. Atlanteans would serve the fleet for more than 45 years, the last bus not being withdrawn until 2006, when a farewell running day was held in October.
