Ipswich Buses General Manager, Stephen Bryce, explains to Peter Jackson how the council-owned company is seeking to future-proof its offering by working in partnership with local businesses and rival operators
Ipswich Buses has long been the Suffolk town’s primary operator, originating as Ipswich Corporation back in 1903. In those days it ran trams, which gave way to trolleybuses two decades later. It wasn’t until 1950 that the first buses were introduced, and until 1986 that – following deregulation – the firm was re-named Ipswich Buses.
The company’s General Manager, Stephen Bryce, only joined last year but brought a fresh approach to the role, making it his mission to work in partnership with other operators and local businesses to increase ridership and raise the operator’s profile in the community in which it’s based.
