W Alexander and Sons Ltd 1955-1956 was published last year, and is now joined by a version taking the story to up to 1960. The pictures have been made available by Robin Fell of Transport Treasures, but sadly the photographer remains unknown.

Alexander vehicles could be seen everywhere from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Inverness and Aberdeen. The operation had been in railway hands before being fully nationalised in 1949.
The 1960 book contains enough pictures to take us through the year month by month – excluding January, when maybe the photographer was getting over Christmas excess or didn’t like
the cold!

We are taken back to a fascinating world of ancient Guy Arabs plodding on alongside newer underfloor-engined vehicles and Bristol Lodekkas. There are shots at depots, bus stations and on the streets, where shops, cars and fashions are equally as fascinating as the buses.

W Alexander and Sons Ltd 1960 (ISBN 978 1 85794 560-7) is published by Silver Link Books at £25 and available from mortonsbooks.co.uk
