Bakers Coaches is holding an open day at its HQ in Biddulph. Themed ‘A celebration of passenger transport’, visitors will be invited to see a selection of veteran vehicles along with the latest additions to the Bakers fleet. The event is part of Bakers’ 75th anniversary celebrations.
Cars from the late 1930s and 40s will represent the time when James and Ethel Baker established the business at Whitegate Garage, Whitemoor, four miles away. Coaches and buses from the 60s and 70s era, when Bakers moved into the coach travel and holiday business, will sit alongside Bakers’ latest acquisitions include a Volvo hybrid double decker and Scania and Volvo coaches.
MD Philip Baker said: “Some vehicles have a special place in our history and we are particularly interested in locating a 1965 Bedford 41 seat Plaxton Panorama, a 1970 Bedford PJK 29 seat Duple, a 1972 Bristol 53 seat LHL Plaxton or a 1976 Bristol 35 seat LHS Plaxton. Veteran coach enthusiasts with any information on the whereabouts of these models – please get in touch.”
Visitors are welcome on October 2 between 1000 and 1600hrs. Parking is available nearby and refreshments served.
A small admission charge will be made on behalf of the Douglas MacMillan Hospice.
