Olympian heaven
Specially spruced up with new paintwork for the event was H548 VAT, a 1990 new to East Yorkshire Leyland Olympian with Northern Counties bodywork, still in service with Redfern Travel of Mansfield, Notts, alongside sister bus H550 VAT.
This operator, along with sister company Johnson Bros (Tours) of Hodthorpe are now the country’s greatest stronghold of surviving in-service Leyland (as opposed to Volvo) Olympians, though these are likely to be withdrawn by the end of next year. Redfern driver Steve Crossland and his son Oliver, 7, are pictured posing with the Olympian. NICK LARKIN
