BUSK (Belt Up School Kids), the national school transport safety group has launched an initiative which aims to provide schools and young people’s organisations with discounted coach hire.

BUSK Director Pat Harris explained: “We are also working with You Me Community on the ‘Free Days Out For Schools’ initiative. The scheme means schools can collect e-vouchers to exchange for free coach travel on school trips.

“Cash-strapped schools can organise their trips without the worry of trying to find affordable coach hire from a reputable company. Woods Travel is just one of our Benchmark members that has registered for this scheme.”

According to its website, vouchers can be collected when parents and the rest of the community are encouraged to shop local with small businesses and traders. Collecting vouchers helps to reduce the need to ask for contributions or payments from parents especially if they’re finding it difficult to pay. Vouchers can then be redeemed to pay for coach hire from any participating coach company which has attained the BUSK ‘Benchmark’ safety standard. Vouchers can also be collected and used by Youth Clubs, Boys Brigade, Girl Guides, Scouts, Air Cadets and Sea Cadet groups. Details at www.youmecommunity.co.uk
