Daimler Buses has delivered 40 new Mercedes-Benz Capacity L four-axle articulated vehicles to Casablanca transport operator Casa Transports SA, which is responsible for public transport across the Casablanca metropolitan area, including surrounding cities and municipalities.

The new, large-capacity buses are operated by RATP Dev and will be deployed on the first two routes of the region’s Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) network, which was inaugurated at the beginning of March. The 21-metre buses operate continuously on separate bus lanes, alongside four existing tram routes.

The four-door, large-capacity articulated buses have space for up to 177 passengers. The new BRT system has a total length of 24.5 kilometres with 42 stops; new route 1 runs from west to east, while route 2 connects the south-western to the north-eastern districts of the city.

Casablanca’s BRT routes have been designed to boost the region’s decarbonisation, and serve a catchment area of around 300,000 residents with buses up to every 5.5 minutes at a subsidised cost of six Dirhams (€0.55) per trip.

Each bus has four wide-opening entrance doors, 58 seats and a high-performance air-conditioning system. Manual folding ramps at doors two and three provide wheelchair access.
