Coach drivers bringing groups to Southend-on-Sea are now able to park in the town all day for free.
In effect from Saturday, March 31, the initiative offers drivers a choice of 15 spaces at the local Arriva depot from Monday to Friday, 0900 to 1800hrs, or one of 25 allocated spaces at the Gasworks site on Saturdays and Sundays from 0900 to 2000hrs.
Between 1030 and 1130hrs, the Council’s resort team will be available outside the Pier entrance on Marine Parade, offering coach visitors advice on local exhibitions, events and attractions.
The town’s well-known seafront stretches seven miles, and is home to the world’s longest pleasure pier, traditional seaside attractions, galleries, museums and five Green Flag parks.
Scott Dolling, Director of Culture, Tourism and Property, said: “We have so much to offer in Southend-on-Sea all year round, with thousands of visitors flocking to the seafront for some great seaside fun.
“We are constantly looking at ways to encourage groups of visitors to the town to visit all the attractions, including historic venues such as Prittlewell Priory and the contemporary art gallery at Focal Point. By introducing this free coach parking initiative, we are looking to build solid relationships with coach companies looking to bring visitors for a great excursion.”
To secure a spot, bookings must be made in advance – the Visitor Information Centre can be reached on 01702 215620 or at [email protected].
