Sunday, January 17, 2016, marked 10 years since the iBus system was first used in London.
On 17 January 2006 the first ‘talking buses’ were trialled on route 149 from London Bridge to Edmonton. They were equipped with a new system featuring on-board audio and visual announcements, which made real-time travel information available to passengers for the first time.
The new technology made it possible to pinpoint exactly where a bus was on its route, making it easier to evenly space buses during their journeys, while waiting times displayed for the ‘next bus’ at countdown screens could be much more accurate.
