Taking advantage of the latest technology through a new partnership will help Postbus reach a greater number of potential passengers

GERMANY What is said to be the second largest German bus operator, Postbus has established a new cooperation with Global Distribution System (GDS) company, Distribusion. All Postbus’ routes to more than 120 destinations are now bookable through websites, OTAs (online travel agencies) and travel agencies connected by Distribution. Online channels are accessed through the Distribusion Booking API (Advanced Passenger Information) while travel agencies can make use of a new agency booking tool. They are now able to sell Postbus tickets and more than 50 other European bus operators to their customers and benefit from attractive commissions.

Deutsche Post Mobility GmbH Managing Director Marc Fleischhauer said: “Due to the collaboration with Distribusion we gain access to a global reservation system and therewith the possibility to extend our sales mix by another important channel.”

Distribusion has developed what it says is the leading GDS for inter city coach travel. The Berlin based travel tech start-up connects travel resellers such as travel websites, OTAs, travel agencies and tour operators with intercity bus operators worldwide. Distribusion provides details if the services provided by more than 160 coach and bus operators to online resellers with more than eight million unique visitors per month and to 3.500 travel agencies worldwide. The operators benefit from a full booking solution including rides management, distribution, ticketing, payment, billing and encashment.

Deutsche Post’s long-distance coach services were first launched in October 2013 and the network continues to grow. Its yellow fleet of modern coaches is operated by experienced medium-sized operators and all the vehicles have seats with generous legroom and three-point seatbelts. The availability of a selection of sweet and savoury snacks, a hot beverage dispenser and onboard toilets are all designed to make the journey experience more pleasant. The Postbus media centre features a large selection of music and films available via the free on-board wireless network and to help keep the devices used by passengers up and running, each seating row is equipped with its own power outlet.
